First of all we should remember that the translation has to be adequate, i.e. what is written in the original language should be understandable in English. There are many difficulties in this work because of differences in two languages that result in different mentality, style, realities and so on.
The main idea is: you translate the spirit of the text but not the “letter” of it.
Most often the translator should be familiar with English as his mother tongue. What we can conclude after analyzing translations of TV films even from English into Russian? We can realize that Russian-speaking translators often do not feel the tiny differences between two languages when using slang expressions and curses. Such rather innocent words as “balls” “ass”, “virgin” and many others sound more mild in English than their very rude equivalents in Russian.
In US euphemisms are often used, as for instance “bathroom” instead of “water-closet”, so we can imagine that there is no big trend to rude expressions, though not always. The word “fight” means arguing and that is also a kind of euphemism. Further we will speak on this subject in more details.
