You have to know English grammar very well, “to feel” the language and choose the right words and adequate expressions. In this case an English-English dictionary helps a lot. In my experience, which is rather prolonged, I have understood that it is not so necessary to use quite new words and slang expressions. What I feel it is important to use your own style, at the same time to stick to the original. Express what you understood in the original text. Understanding is very important in the process of translation both from English, and into English, not just formal copying of grammar structures. Remember the rule: translation has to be better than the original. Why is it so? You worked over the text, tried to understand it and express the meaning as clearly, as you are able to.
